FOR CAMPERS

How do I qualify to attend camp as a camper?

If you or your family member have a disability of any kind, you are invited to participate as a "camper".  This includes: 

- families with a child with disabilities, 
- families with a parent with disabilities, 
- a couple with a spouse with disabilities, or
- an individual with disabilities accompanied by a friend or family member who is the main point person to aid in their special needs.

 

How do I apply?

Visit the camper application page and fill out the online application. Only one application is required per family unit, though children over 18 must fill out a separate application. The applications will be accepted first come, first served; however, preference is given to families who live in the general camp region so as to help facilitate ongoing community after the week of camp ends. 

Applicants will receive a telephone call from our camper coordinator within two weeks of completing the application to finalize the registration process.

Once the limited number of camper spots are filled, we will start a waiting list.

 

What is the cost?

Our hope is to remove all burdens and obstacles that might prevent families/ individuals with disabilities from coming to camp, so the overall cost of camp (housing, meals, all "planned activities") is FREE for campers. (Travel expenses to and from camp are covered by campers).

However since space if very limited, we require two small deposits to reserve and confirm your attendance at camp:
1) a $50 deposit will be required for all camp applications, and
2) a final $50 registration fee will be collected before camp upon confirmation of each family's attendance, making the total cost of camp for each FAMILY UNIT $100.

If you need further financial assistance, please address that in the designated area of the application.

 

What should I expect during the week at camp?

Hope Heals Camp will be a week of fellowship, encouragement, rest, learning, worship, prayer, and lots of fun. Camp begins Monday afternoon and ends Friday morning, and in the time between, you'll enjoy time together as a family as well as free time while your loved one is cared for by a "Compassionate Companion". Classic camp activities, a talent show, women’s spa time, a pool party, family photo sessions, and a huge banquet celebration are just a few of the things to look forward to during Camp. 

Adults will have the opportunity to commune, commiserate, and celebrate with men and women walking a similar road while the kids build a community of their own with safe and age-appropriate activities and programming. Daily messages from Jay and Katherine, quiet times of reflection, small group discussions, and worship sessions with renowned musical guests (Sara Groves--Week 1 & Sandra McCracken--Week 2) will refuel and rejuvenate you for the journey ahead. 

FOR COMPANIONS

Who can serve?

We welcome all who feel called to serve as companions to those struggling with disability. Individuals over 18 can serve on their own or families can serve together with their children, though we recommend only bringing children 5 and older as younger children are less independent and thus make serving more challenging. Exceptions will be made for student groups which require a ratio of 3:1 students to adults over 21. For more info about serving with a student group email info@hopehealscamp.org.

 

How will we be serving?

Compassionate Companions ("CCs") - the majority of volunteers will serve as companions paired up with campers (families or individuals with disabilities) to encourage and walk alongside them during the week of camp and beyond. CCs will be trained and equipped to serve but will NOT be tasked with medical or personal aid for those with disabilities (eg. toileting or medicine). "CCs" will be intentionally paired with campers who live in proximity to them so as to continue in relationship after the week of camp ends.

Camp Crew - ("CREW") these volunteers WILL stay the entire week of camp and will aid in the executing of the camp activities but will not be assigned to specific campers.

Day Volunteer - these volunteers WILL NOT stay the entire week of camp but rather will only come to serve for specific activities.

 

How do I apply?

First come, first served but preference is given to companions living in the general camp region so as to help facilitate ongoing community after the week of camp ends, particularly if you serve as a "Compassionate Companion" and are paired up with a family who will be from the general camp region as well.

Along with the application, a background check must be submitted via the companion application page. Background checks usually clear in a day or two.  Applicants will receive a telephone call from our companion coordinator within two weeks of completing the application and background check to finalize the registration process.

Also, a $50 application fee will be required for all camp applications and will go against the total camp fee.

 

Will there be training?

We will hold a training for ALL COMPANIONS in May. This training will likely be in a digital format making it accessible for all to view from their own computer. Companions will also be required to come to camp on Sunday (before the campers arrive on Monday afternoon) for a time of fellowship and equipping.

 

What are the costs? Will I need to fundraise?

Since space if very limited, we require a $50 deposit to confirm and reserve your spot at camp. Once your application is accepted, you will need to fundraise to attend Hope Heals Camp which allows us to keep the costs nearly free for the families and individual with disabilities. 

We will equip you with fundraising tools, including an online peer fundraising page to make it easy to engage your network.

Adults over the age of 18 are required to raise $500 and kids under 18 will raise $250, which will be due before camp. The cost for families serving at camp will be capped at $1250, regardless of how many family members attend. However, we encourage all companions to set a fundraising goal to both cover your costs as well as those of a camper family.

If you need financial assistance, please address that in the designated area of the application. Some scholarships are available for those who work specifically in the HELPING PROFESSIONS (education, medicine, therapy, ministry).
